Apple plans to completely rebuild Siri Assistant in iOS 19 with the debut of the new version or WWDC

Since the release of iOS 18, Apple’s performance in Siri AI upgrades has been widely considered problematic. A series of AI features originally planned to be launched with iOS 18 have not been officially in place for 10 months. Apple has also publicly admitted that it will continue to push relevant features in the coming year.

According to multiple reports, Apple is brewing to regain the initiative with iOS 19. At the root of the problem is that Apple had to put together an impromptu system to showcase Apple Intelligence in time for iOS 18. Bloomberg reported that Siri in iOS 18 actually has “two sets of brains”: one is the traditional basic instruction processing (such as setting a timer, making a call), and the other is handling more complex queries, which can call up user data and respond to changes in instructions.

However, due to the tight schedule, Apple failed to integrate the two systems in iOS 18, resulting in frequent bugs in Siri during use, and the experience was not smooth enough. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software, also expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance.

In order to solve these problems once and for all, Apple plans to rebuild Siri from scratch in iOS 19, fully integrating traditional and modern processing architectures. According to people familiar with the matter, the new Siri architecture is expected to debut at WWDC in June this year, and is scheduled to officially launch with iOS 19.4 in the spring of 2026. This means that the old Siri system that has plagued users for years will officially become a thing of the past.

At the same time, Apple also made a drastic management change to the Siri team. Mike Rockwell, head of Vision Pro, took over the Siri project and is using his backbone of the Vision Pro team to restructure the voice assistant division across multiple areas such as voice, comprehension, performance, and user experience. Previously, there were repeated dissatisfaction voices within the Siri team, and the management problems were serious, and this adjustment is expected to improve execution.

While it’s still early days, there are signs that Apple’s pace in AI will pick up significantly this year. Compared to last year’s hasty response at WWDC 24, iOS 19 may be a turning point in the real maturity of Apple’s AI strategy.
